This piece was made with the influence of the complexity involved in the carpet pages from the "Book of Kells", and other such ancient manuscripts.  To improve my skills at the more fine carving.

This is a representation of the story of a woman who was involved with Fionn in the Fenian Cycle.  The woman was said to have taken the form of a doe in a deer chase when she was caught she assumed the form of a beautiful maiden.  She stayed under Fionn's protection and they fell in love and beard a child who was named Oissian.

Spiral's are difficult to do in wood unless they are done on a large scale.  This piece is a experiment of the possibilities in spirals.
