| Once again a challenging assemblage of different materials,
unlike my previous multi-piece carvings this one contains a great
quantity of pine, being Larch in this case. I also used a lot of
butternut wood and I was able to apply (in a few places) the technique
of chip carving, which is quite new to me and I was very excited to see
what new things I could bring into this art form adding that
style.
The theme of this carving has to do with wood spirits, the mystery and power of nature. If one looks closely at this piece you can see hidden things, houses, tree stumps, animals (big and small) and other details. Wood types include; Larch, butternut, walnut, cherry, sycamore,
basswood, poplar, ebony, rosewood, mahogany, and purple heartwood. |
